| Sandy sat quietly, contemplating
what she just heard. She let out the sheet a little as they fell
off of the wind. They passed another seagull seemingly hanging in
mid air. Finally, Sandy spoke. “This sounds a lot like Newton’s
Three Laws of Motion.”
Aunt Penny laughed. “Sandy, where do you think Newton got it from. Before there was science there was magic. In fact science was a direct outgrowth of magic. Elizabeth Melton established the Three Laws of Magical motion about 200 years before Isaac Newton was born.” The ocean breeze played gently with the Rhodes’ sails and the women’s hats as they contemplated Aunt Penny’s revelation. “Sandy, we now live in the Age of Unbelief. For science to flourish, there has to be a strong unbelief in the mystical forces that truly bind the Universe together. This is an environment where evil flourishes, since science denies the existence of God and the struggle of good and evil.” Their boat passed a flock of stationary-looking Canadian geese and a sea bass that was cruising near the surface. Sandy finally asked some questions. “So where do I fit in and why is everything moving so slowly?” “Sandy, you and your friends must take over where we left off, fighting the day to day evil and promoting good. You must re-establish the broken circle.” “Friends?” Sandy inquired. She was shocked; for now it had only been her and April exploring a couple of books of prose. “I’ve said too much already,” Aunt Penny replied. “For now it’s just you and April. You must re-establish a Circle of Two. The others will come when you need them most.” Again Sandy was shocked. How did Aunt Penny know about April? “To answer your earlier question I invoked Relativity Magic to slow down the time frame of everyone on this beach so that they wouldn’t see us,” Aunt Penny said. “Why would it matter if anyone saw us? It’s only a dream,” Sandy said. “I’ve entered your consciousness in the context of a dream but this is real. Consider it a moment out of time. I’ve taken you back in time to a time and place when I was still alive. When your dream is over you will return to your room in the so-called present, while the ‘me’ you see before you will remain in her time frame at its proper speed. To my perspective, you will have disappeared and everyone and everything will suddenly jar back into motion. For this time we share together now, the past ‘me’ and your present ‘me’ are one. This Relativity Magic gets really complex. Sometimes thinking about it gives me a headache. Thank God you girls don’t have to study Chaos Magic anytime soon.” “Chaos Magic? I thought you said there were
only three Magic’s to learn,” Sandy said.
