| There was a boat at water’s
edge; a 19 foot Rhodes sailboat. Sandy helped Aunt Penny push the
boat into deeper water. The pitch of the beach was fairly shallow
and they had to travel a good distance from shore to launch the boat.
Both women’s dresses were wetted by the ocean, from the hem to slightly
above the waterline. Sandy hauled herself aboard and unconsciously
took the crew’s seat. Aunt Penny took the tiller. She was the
skipper. Again the dream contained inconsistencies with reality.
One minute Sandy’s dress was soaked with seawater and the next it was perfectly
dry. They tacked away from shore. If you measured the apparent
wind and factored in the slow motion tango that everyone on the beach was
doing, the beach inhabitants had to be experiencing gale force winds.
“Ok, Sandy. Time is short. You’ve probably figured out by now that the books I left to you in my will are more than poetry books,” Aunt Penny said. “By the way, good work that you and April did with the baby bird. Your work there isn’t finished. You’ll understand once I’ve told you the laws of magic you need for now.” “You saw the baby bird thing,” Sandy asked incredulously? There was a long moment of silence. “Are we witches?” Sandy asked when she finally broke the silences. “We practice magic and we practice it for the good of others,” Aunt Penny answered. “If we’re called witches, so be it. It is the fear of others that put the term as negative. One of the theories is that women herbalists threatened the emerging profession of doctors and medicine and that those early doctors spread fear and death among these women as a way to establish themselves as the only healers. But magic amongst womenfolk existed long before that period of time. So, call it magic, witchcraft, or Wiccan, we are in it to promote good and fight evil.” It was quiet again as Sandy let that sink in. Aunt Penny began to lecture again. “Among many, there are three magic’s you’ll have to master in your high school and college years; Meltonian Magic, Relativity or temporal Magic, and Quantum Magic. To start you must learn the three Laws of Magical Motion, also know as Meltonian magic.” Aunt Penny took a deep breath and forged ahead. “Rule #1: A magical force, once set in motion, remains
in motion until acted upon by an external magical force. And
conversely a magical potential, unrealized, remains dormant unless acted
upon by an initiating magical force.
Rule #2: For every good magical spell cast there is an equal but opposite evil potential released. Rule #3: The power of the spell cast is in
direct proportion to the emotional energy used.”
