| books and hid them away. April stuffed her trigonometry
book into her
backpack. Both girls headed back downstairs. “See you tomorrow,” April called as she slipped on her jacket. Sandy’s mom, Karen Shepard, already had her coat on and the car keys out. April was right again about who would be giving her a ride home. They headed out into the rain. The storm was starting to pick up, like a true Nor’ Easter. April suddenly feels a strange tingling sensation. She chalks it up to the chilly wind. The accelerating wind knocks a few petals off of some of the beach rose flowers. There’s a brief flash of light, a deafening boom of thunder follows quickly. April rubs her eyes hard. They feel funny and things seem to look a little different. Probably just the lightning, she thinks.
