“Oh no. You and I are taking a walk down to the principal’s office.”
“Take your hands off me or you’ll be talking to my lawyer,” Brock threatened, his eyes smoldering as he stalked off to the principal’s office. “You mean Courtney’s lawyer, don’t you Mr. Brock. Keep your feet moving.” Mr. Sorenson did, however, release his grip on Brock. He was still unaware of Mandy. The show was over and the crowd dispersed, leaving April and Mandy alone. April picked herself up and went over to Mandy. She bent down. Mandy’s eyes and face were hidden by her long, red hair. “You OK?” April asked. She brushed the hair out of her friend’s face. She nodded yes through tear-wetted eyes. “Come on. You’re OK,” April said as she hauled her friend up. April picked up the poetry notebook and stuffed it into Mandy’s hands. She steered Mandy in the general direction of her next class and took off. April was late for Mrs. Roper’s Social Science Class and she wasn’t looking forward to the teacher’s displeasure. The last time April was late, Mrs. Roper assigned her an extra essay on how the lateness of some historical figures had affected the outcome of world events. Researching that essay cost April at least a whole weekend and then some.
